The Minister of Transport and Logistics oversees the completion of terminal relocation operations at King Khalid International Airport and inspects the smooth flow of passenger traffic.
His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Board of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, today reviewed the completion of terminal relocation operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. He was accompanied by H.E. the President of General Authority of Civil Aviation, Mr. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej; the CEO of MATARAT Holding Company, Raed Al-Idrisi; the CEO of Riyadh Airports Company, Ayman Abuabaah; and a number of airport leaders.
During his field tour, Eng. Al-Jasser inspected the smooth flow of travel operations and the progress of work across airport facilities in line with the approved operational plans for the holy month of Ramadan. He affirmed the successful completion of terminal relocation operations through the redistribution of airlines and flights among terminals. This step contributes to enhancing operational efficiency across travel halls and airport facilities, improving the passenger experience, facilitating smoother travel and mobility, strengthening domestic and international connectivity, and reinforcing King Khalid International Airport’s role in Riyadh as a global logistics hub under the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
His Excellency stated: “The terminal relocation process at King Khalid International Airport also aims to optimize asset returns, which is a key strategic objective for any airport operator. This is achieved by maximizing the utilization of fixed airport resources such as counters, baggage belts, boarding bridges, and passport control lanes, as well as re-engineering passenger and baggage flows to increase capacity by reinvesting in ground handling resources and support services within the airport. This will enhance the airport’s competitiveness and attractiveness for passenger, cargo, and logistics traffic, strengthen the efficiency of the transport and logistics ecosystem in Riyadh, and raise the airport’s readiness for major international events.” He added that this comes in parallel with the announcement of the commencement of construction of the third runway and related works under the master plan of King Salman International Airport.
For his part, the President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation stated that the completion of terminal relocation operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh—carried out smoothly and within a short timeframe—forms part of a broader transformation plan aimed at increasing capacity and enhancing operational efficiency, in line with the significant growth witnessed in the Kingdom’s air transport sector.
He further explained that the terminal relocation process reflects the adoption of a more efficient and competitive model to improve service quality and to position King Khalid International Airport as a leading global gateway and international aviation hub in line with the objectives of the Aviation Program. He emphasized that the operational impact will positively reflect on passenger experience as well as on the efficiency of air cargo and logistics movement.
Eng. Al-Jasser also inspected the check-in area and received a detailed briefing on operational procedures in accordance with the approved travel and Umrah season plans during Ramadan.
The Minister of Transport and Logistics Services concluded his tour by expressing his appreciation and gratitude to all airport employees and to the various public and private sector entities that contributed to the smooth and successful completion of the large-scale terminal relocation process.
