Advisor to the Minister of Energy Believes Oil Demand Will Continue for Several Decades to Come

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Muhanna, Advisor to the Minister of Energy, confirmed the continuity of oil demand for several decades to come, citing the existence of two schools of thought regarding the future of petroleum demand.

Al-Muhanna mentioned in a television interview with “Al-Ekhbariya” that one trend states that the year 2050 will witness the beginning of a decline in oil demand, while the other school emphasizes the continued demand for petroleum, where there might be a limited annual decrease or increase in growth.

He explained that the continued growth of international economies, especially in developing and poor communities, in addition to the increase in the world’s population, necessitates the need for additional energy sources, whether they be oil or new energies.

Al-Muhanna pointed out that current expectations indicate continued demand for petroleum, noting the importance of technological development in the field of oil exploration and production to ensure the sustainability of these sources.
