Senegal Manager Urges Players After Outrageous Penalty Awarded to Morocco in AFCON Final

Senegal national team manager, Pape Thiaw, was incensed on the sidelines after a controversial penalty was awarded in extra time of the Africa Cup of Nations final, hosted by Morocco.

Head referee Jean-Jacques Ndala’s decision to award a penalty to Morocco in the 98th minute of the match sparked the resentment of the Senegalese coach, after Senegalese defender El Hadji Malick Diouf brought down Brahim Diaz inside the penalty area.

Senegal’s goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, remained in the dressing room but eventually returned to the pitch alongside his captain, Sadio Mané, to urge their teammates to complete the match to the end.

Commenting on the incident on Channel E4, former Nigerian international Efan Ekoku said: “You can’t do that. Even if you feel deeply frustrated about it, you have to let the judge and the rules [decide]… I have some sympathy, but this is not proper form.”
