Saudi Al-Ahli plays a decisive match in Baghdad to continue its journey in the AFC Champions League Elite
Saudi club Al-Ahli will be a guest of Iraq’s Al-Shorta tomorrow at Al-Zawraa Stadium in Baghdad, as part of the sixth round of the West Zone in the AFC Champions League Elite. In this encounter, Al-Ahli seeks to regain its winning streak and strengthen its chances for early qualification to the Round of 16.
Al-Ahli enters the confrontation with 10 points after its 22-match unbeaten continental streak ended following a loss to UAE’s Al-Sharjah in the previous round. The title holder looks to correct its path and return to winning ways before the upcoming break.
On the other hand, Iraq’s Al-Shorta continues its search for its first win in the tournament, currently holding only one point from five matches. Suffering from a series of consecutive losses—the most recent being a heavy defeat against Saudi’s Al-Hilal in the fifth round—the Iraqi team hopes to utilize home-ground advantage and fan support to achieve a positive result and restore balance.
Al-Ahli began its campaign with a 4-2 victory over Uzbekistan’s Nasaf in Jeddah, then drew 2-2 with Qatar’s Al-Duhail in Doha, followed by two consecutive wins over Qatar’s Al-Gharafa (4-0) in Jeddah and Qatar’s Al-Sadd (2-1) in Doha, before losing 0-1 to Al-Sharjah in Jeddah during the fifth round.
Saudi’s Al-Hilal leads the West Zone standings with 15 points, followed by UAE’s Al-Wahda with 13 points, then Iran’s Tractor with 11 points, while Al-Ahli and UAE’s Shabab Al-Ahli sit at 10 points each.
