The Ukrainian President affirms that the Russian attacks do not reflect a real intention to end the war, while Russia announced strikes on industrial facilities and energy infrastructure in Ukraine.
Mutual attack between Russian and Ukrainian forces
The Ukrainian President stated that the Russian attacks do not in any way reflect a genuine intention to end the war. Russia said on Saturday that it launched strikes on industrial facilities and energy infrastructure in Ukraine on Friday night and Saturday, using “Kinzhal” hypersonic missiles.
Moscow clarified that the attack came in response to Ukrainian attacks targeting “civilian targets” within Russian territory. The Russian Ministry of Defense said that the strikes were “large-scale” and targeted the Ukrainian military and energy facilities, confirming that the goal was to respond to “Ukrainian terrorist attacks on civilian targets in Russia.”
Damages resulting from the attacks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the Russian strikes damaged more than ten civilian facilities, leading to power outages for thousands of people in seven regions, adding that these attacks are “in no way an attempt to end the war.”
Ukrainian attack on Russian Saratov
In a related context, two people were killed on Saturday in a Ukrainian drone attack on the city of Saratov in central Russia. The regional governor, Roman Busargin, explained that the drones hit a residential building, damaging several apartments, noting that the authorities will provide financial aid to the affected residents.
Saratov is located on the Volga River opposite the city of Engels, which includes an important Russian military base. Kyiv had previously targeted the area with drones, but Russian defenses usually shoot down a large percentage of them, and casualties are rare.
