Mohamed El Shenawy, the Egyptian national team goalkeeper, won the “Man of the Match” award in the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations match between Egypt and South Africa, following an exceptional performance and a clean sheet.

El Shenawy succeeded in saving a series of dangerous and clear-cut chances from the “Bafana Bafana” forwards, especially during the second half, contributing to securing a 1-0 victory for the “Pharaohs,” scored by captain Mohamed Salah from a penalty kick in the 42nd minute.

This was according to a tweet by the “TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2025” organization, which described El Shenawy as “Egypt’s impenetrable wall,” while congratulating him on the award.

With this, the Egyptian national team’s tally rose to six points, placing them at the top of Group B and making them the first team to officially secure a spot in the Round of 16 in this edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

It is noted that the Egyptian team had started its journey with a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe in the first round.

As for the South African national team, they can raise their tally to six points if they win their final match today (Round 3) of the group, while their points would be four in the event of a draw. In the case of a loss, their tally will remain at three points, as they await the outcome of their final match.
