In a statement on Sunday, as part of the ongoing preparations for the upcoming replacement process, the Bank clarified that these measures aim to speed up and simplify the replacement process in coordination with all relevant authorities.

The Bank emphasized in its statement the importance of adhering to the correct arrangement of banknotes in the form of bundles, so that each bundle includes notes of the same denomination and the same issue, and the number of pieces in each bundle does not exceed 100 banknotes.

The Bank pointed out that clients must arrange the banknotes symmetrically so that the face is upwards in all bundles, while damaged banknotes must be sorted into independent bundles according to the same regulations, along with providing proof that they are damaged.

The Bank confirmed that adherence to these instructions contributes to saving time and effort for citizens and relevant authorities and enhances the cooperation necessary for the success of the replacement process and ensuring it runs smoothly and quickly.

The Governor of the Bank, Abdul Qader Al-Husariya, noted in a press conference on Sunday the announcement of the executive instructions for the new Syrian currency, confirming that all Central Bank transactions will begin at the start of the year.

The Governor stated that there will be ease and flexibility in the exchange through 66 companies and 1,000 designated outlets.

He indicated that the standard for the replacement process dictates removing two zeros from the nominal value, so that every one hundred old pounds equals one new Syrian pound.

Regarding the date of the replacement process, the Governor of the Bank indicated that it will begin on January 1, 2026, and will last for 90 days, subject to extension, and will be implemented free of charge without imposing any fees or taxes.

Al-Husariya pointed out that all Central Bank transactions will be in the new currency at the beginning of the year, calling on citizens not to abandon the old currency during the period of coexistence between the two currencies, as sellers will be obligated to deal with both together.
