Opening of the First Advanced Training School for Humanoid Robots in China

China recently opened an innovative training school based on the latest technologies to teach humanoid robots a wide range of practical skills, spanning from the ability to work in complex industrial environments to providing assistance inside homes and public spaces.

The new center, known as The Phase II Beijing Humanoid Robot Data Training Center, is located in the Shijingshan District of the capital, Beijing. Spanning two floors, the center is designed to represent reality by recreating industrial production lines and daily living environments, while providing rapidly reconfigurable training modules to adapt scenarios according to operational needs.

The 1.65-meter-tall “Kuavo” humanoid robot is the centerpiece of the training process, as the center relies on the Advanced Fifth Generation (5G-A) network to develop its complex motor capabilities. The training methodology is based on simulating the human learning style by linking each robot to human trainers to acquire practical skills through repetition and multiple scenarios.

The center aims to address the shortage of realistic and standardized data that hinders the development of artificial intelligence models by generating millions of high-quality inputs annually, in cooperation with similar centers in several Chinese cities.

The training process follows an academic system that allows robots to enroll in major specializations including industrial manufacturing, smart home applications, elderly care services, and 5G integration contexts. These specializations fall under 16 precise fields, through which the robots have acquired more than 20 operational skills with a success rate exceeding 95%.

Training results have begun to appear on the ground, as a number of trained robots have been deployed in real work sites, including factories of the Chinese “FAW” automotive group and stations of the “China Southern Power Grid” company, in an indication of this technology’s transition from laboratories to daily practical and industrial applications.
