Horrors of the Sudanese war escalate: 150,000 civilians killed and 12 million displaced

The horrors of the civil war in Sudan are worsening dreadfully, and the tragic humanitarian consequences are increasing daily. Reports have indicated that the human cost of the conflict has exceeded the point of shock, as it is believed that more than 150,000 civilians have lost their lives directly or indirectly.

Nearly 12 million people in Sudan have faced forced displacement, forced to flee their areas and identities, in one of the worst humanitarian crises of this century. The crisis is worsening in many regions, which have begun to suffer from acute food crises that threaten the lives of millions, amid the increasing phenomenon of famine.

Violent and continuous battles have lasted between the two main sides in the conflict; the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, since the outbreak of comprehensive clashes in April 2023. Both rely on fighting to ensure absolute control over Sudanese territory.

It appears that the atrocities and violations committed in the context of the conflict have reached new levels of intensity and brutality in recent weeks, increasing the severity of the suffering endured by the civilian population. This comes in light of verified reports of an apparent and horrific massacre in the city of El Fasher, the capital of the Darfur region in western Sudan, as part of the increasing escalation of war atrocities.
