Egypt Faces Immense Challenges and Justifies the Danger of the Ethiopian Dam in Foreign Minister’s Speech Before Senate Committee

The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, confirmed that his country is facing unprecedented challenges in its modern history, noting that it is “surrounded by belts of fire in all directions.”

This came during his address before the Human Rights and Social Solidarity Committee of the Senate, headed by Dr. Abdel-Hadi Al-Qasabi, and in the presence of Major General Ahmed Al-Awadi, Deputy Speaker of the Council.

Abdelatty stressed that the Ethiopian dam represents an existential threat, explaining: “We do not say the Renaissance Dam, but rather we say the Ethiopian Dam, because it is not a ‘renaissance’ at all, but rather a unilateral act.”

The Minister added that “this dam imposed a one-sided will,” emphasizing that any harm inflicted on Egypt regarding its water rights will be followed by a reaction, asserting that it will “certainly be within the framework of the right to self-defense.” Badr Abdelatty concluded with a decisive phrase: “I am lying in wait for it.”
