South Africa defeats Zambia by two goals to nil in the African Volleyball Championship
South Africa achieved a precious victory over its Zambian counterpart with two goals to nil, in one of the final round matches of the African Volleyball Championship currently taking place.
The victory for the South African national team was secured after “The Boys – Bafana Bafana” managed to score through players Tshepang Moremi, Lyle Foster, and Oswin Reagan Appollis, in the seventh, fiftieth, and eightieth minutes from a penalty kick respectively.
On the other hand, the Zambian national team was able to narrow the gap with a goal scored by Tawanda Maswanhise in the nineteenth minute, but the gap widened back to two goals after a South African player scored an “own goal” in the seventy-first minute by mistake.
South Africa occupied second place in the Group A standings with 6 points following this victory, qualifying for the round of 16 of the tournament behind the leading Egyptian national team, which collected 9 points.
As for the Zambian national team, it officially exited the tournament after finishing third in the standings with only one point, trailing by one point behind the Angolan national team, which held third place in another group.
