The Director of Operations at the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Michael Glacchen, announced before the US House Homeland Security Committee that Iran continues to plan attacks against former government officials in response to the killing of the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Qasem Soleimani, who was assassinated in January 2020. Iran’s attacks against former US officials pose a growing threat to national security.
Glacchen said that “in October 2024, we indicted an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps operative, who was tasked by the regime with managing a network of criminal associates to advance Iran’s assassination plots against its targets, including President Donald Trump.” The indictment of an Iranian operative confirms Iran’s continued efforts in planning external attacks.
The FBI Director of Operations continued, “We also charged and arrested two individuals we believe were recruited within that network to silence and murder on US soil an American journalist who was a prominent critic of the regime.” Additional arrests in the network targeting critics reflect the deepening US investigations against Iran’s operations.
Glacchen stated that “Iran has routinely surveilled Jewish and Israeli facilities and persons in the United States over the past decade,” noting that “the FBI continues to use intelligence to identify threats related to Iran’s lethal capabilities targeting US persons.” Iran’s surveillance of Israeli and Jewish Americans is part of the regime’s directives.
We at the FBI “work closely with other US government agencies and our foreign partners to counter the threats posed by Iran and its proxies to US interests.” FBI cooperation with international security entities aims to prevent potential attacks.
