Progress in Combating Famine in Gaza is “Fragile” and Malnutrition Risk Increases, According to WHO Report

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, confirmed that the progress made in combating famine in the Gaza Strip remains extremely fragile, given the continued massive destruction of infrastructure, the collapse of livelihoods and local food production, and restrictions imposed on humanitarian operations.

Ghebreyesus explained, in a post on the “X” platform, that more than 100,000 children and 37,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women in Gaza are at risk of acute malnutrition by April 2026, necessitating urgent humanitarian intervention.

He pointed out that only 50% of health facilities in the Strip are partially functioning and suffer from a severe shortage of basic medical supplies and equipment, which often face difficulties entering due to complex procedures and imposed restrictions.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization called for the urgent approval of the entry of life-saving medical supplies and equipment into Gaza’s hospitals, aiming to improve access to healthcare and expand the scope of vital services for civilians in light of the escalating crisis.
