Houthis arrest additional UN staff in Yemen and the organization is forced to take steps

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said that the Houthis arrested additional UN staff on Thursday, and the organization’s Secretary-General António Guterres urged the immediate release of all detainees.

Dujarric added: “These arrests make the delivery of UN humanitarian aid in Houthi-controlled areas untenable. This directly affects millions in need and limits their access to life-saving assistance.”

The United Nations has repeatedly rejected Houthi accusations that its staff were involved in spying activities in Yemen.

As a reminder, the Houthis have controlled most of Yemen, including the capital Sana’a, since seizing power there in 2014 and early 2015.
