At “Al-Salam” Stadium in the capital, Cairo, Al Ahly managed to take a 1-0 lead through their player Omar Kamal Abdelwahed in the 41st minute of a match that witnessed tension between the teams. However, Al Ahly failed to capitalize on this lead, as Telecom Egypt succeeded in equalizing through Mohamed Mostafa Fawzy’s first goal in the 81st minute of regulation time.
The competition extended into two full periods of extra time following the 1-1 draw in regulation.
Just six minutes into the first half of extra time, Al Ahly faced a major obstacle when their forward, Taher Mohamed, received a red card for committing a foul near his penalty area, significantly reducing his team’s strength.
In a surprising development, Telecom Egypt knocked out the giant Al Ahly from the Egypt Cup after defeating them 2-1 in the tournament’s Round of 32. The match saw Mostafa Fawzy score the second goal for his team in the 110th minute of the second half of extra time.
The other goals in the match were scored by Omar Kamal Abdelwahed in the 41st minute, and Taher Mohamed was the player sent off with a red card.
Mostafa Fawzy, who scored the first goal for his team in the 81st minute, succeeded in netting the second goal for Telecom Egypt amidst the numerical deficit suffered by Cairo’s Al Ahly, advancing the team to face Pharco in the Round of 16.
Al Ahly remains the most decorated club with this important Egypt Cup title, holding 39 titles in its storied history. However, the team has been absent from the last two seasons of the tournament after withdrawing from the season before last, which resulted in their suspension from participating in the last season, as stated in official sources.
