Israeli Knesset Confirms Law to Cut Electricity and Water to UNRWA Offices

The Israeli Knesset, the parliament of the State of Israel, has finaly approved a draft law to cut electricity and water to the offices of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and this law will enter into force immediately.

Israel Army Radio reported that “the Knesset approved in the second and third readings a draft law to cut electricity and water to UNRWA offices.”

The voting session concluded with an overwhelming majority, as the draft law received the support of 59 deputies against 7 opponents, out of the 120 deputies in the Knesset, according to the same media source.

According to Israeli legal procedures, any draft law requires approval in three readings to become an effective law.

It is noteworthy that the Knesset had approved the draft law in November 2025, after which it was referred to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee for preparation to complete the final vote in the second and third readings.

This Israeli parliamentary decision comes at a sensitive time, as the need for services and support from UNRWA is increasing significantly among Palestinians, in light of the ongoing effects resulting from a two-year war launched by Israel on the Gaza Strip from October 8, 2023, until the start of the ceasefire that entered into force on October 10.
