Cairo – Jeddah ranks second globally as the busiest international flight route
The Cairo – Jeddah flight route ranked second globally as the busiest international route in terms of seat capacity, with a capacity of approximately $5.5 \text{ million}$ seats, coming directly after the Hong Kong – Taipei route, which tops the list, according to a report issued by Knight Frank.
This classification reflects the high and sustained demand for travel between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, driven by the movement of pilgrims and Umrah performers throughout the year, along with business travelers, and the movement of expats and residents, which has made the route one of the most active global air passages.
The route recorded a jump in seat capacity of $62\%$, a clear indicator of the recovery of the aviation sector and the accelerated pace of operations on high-demand routes, as airlines boosted the number of flights and frequencies to meet the increasing momentum.
This performance highlights the pivotal position of both Cairo International Airport and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah as major centers for regional and international air connectivity, especially for religious and commercial flights, with improved levels of operation and services.
The report confirms that the Cairo – Jeddah route is no longer a seasonal passage tied only to Hajj and Umrah, but has transformed into a permanent air artery with stable demand throughout the year, which enhances future expansion opportunities in capacity during the coming period.
