Egypt national team fails to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final after defeat to Senegal
The Egyptian national football team failed in its dream of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, currently being held in Morocco, after being defeated by its Senegalese counterpart with a single goal yesterday evening, Wednesday, at the Grand Stade de Tanger.
The Egyptian national team, the “Pharaohs,” will settle for competing for third place next Saturday, facing the Nigerian national team, which lost to its Moroccan counterpart on penalties (2-4) in the capital, Rabat.
Reports had been raised regarding the possibility of Egyptian player Mohamed Salah returning early to the ranks of his English club, Liverpool, indicating that the player would not participate in the third-place play-off against Nigeria.
However, the official account of the Egyptian national team posted photos on the “X” platform of some “Pharaohs” players, led by Mohamed Salah, during their travel from Tangier to Casablanca, with the caption: “The Pharaohs head to Casablanca to face Nigeria in the third-place play-off.”
“On Sport” channel quoted the technical staff of the Egyptian national team stating that everything rumored about Salah leaving the camp before the end of the tournament is “mere rumors” with no basis in truth, confirming that the Egyptian star is “staying with the team until the last moment of the tournament.”
The channel explained that Mohamed Salah did not submit any request to leave the national team camp following the defeat to Senegal and the exit from the semi-finals, as he realizes that his role as captain mandates his presence to support his teammates after the dream of reaching the final was lost. Salah will be at the head of the delegation heading to the Moroccan city of Casablanca to play the anticipated match against the Nigerian “Eagles” scheduled for next Saturday.
Regarding the final match, it will bring together the national teams of Morocco and Senegal next Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in the capital, Rabat.
