Morocco advances to the semi-finals with a late win over Syria in the tournament finals
The Moroccan national team defeated Syria 1–0 on Thursday, becoming the first team to secure a place in the semi-finals. The match’s only goal came just 11 minutes before the end, in a game dominated by tactical discipline and strategic planning throughout.
After the match, Morocco’s head coach, Sektioui, told “Abu Dhabi Sports” channel: “Al-hamdulillah for the win. It was a very difficult match against a strong, tactically disciplined team that plays with unified spirit.”
Sektioui added: “I believe the key to winning this match was ball possession, patience, and waiting for the right moment to attack.”
He continued: “Our team includes outstanding and exceptional players, but they were experiencing some physical fatigue. Still, every player aims to represent his country in the best possible way.”
Regarding the potential semi-final opponent, whether Algeria or the UAE, Sektioui said: “The tournament becomes more difficult with every stage we reach, so it doesn’t matter who we face — we will play the team that qualifies.”
