Salvini fears “Brussels playing with fire” in confiscating Russian assets.

2 Min Read

In his statements to reporters on Saturday, Salvini considered that: “Personally, I consider that dangerous and reckless.” He said that the Italian government took the correct step, pointing out that: “We have a free market and we are not at war with Russia.”

Salvini added that the other side of confiscating assets, funds, and shops is the Russians taking reciprocal steps. He pointed out: “There are 314 Italian companies operating in Russia, and they earn revenue and provide job opportunities.” He expressed his doubts that “some in Brussels are playing with fire.”

It is noted that the European Union seeks to confiscate Russian assets frozen in its countries to use them to support Ukraine financially and militarily, and it wishes to urge all member states to approve the European Commission’s plan in this regard.

However, four countries, namely Italy, Belgium, Bulgaria, and Malta, expressed their opposition to the confiscation of Russian assets and called on the European Commission and the European Council to search for alternative options, as reported by Politico.

For its part, Russia has repeatedly warned against touching its sovereign assets, confirming that it will take reciprocal measures in response to the confiscation of its assets.
