Vice Admiral Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Gharibi, Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces, participated in the keel-laying ceremony of one of the ships, in the presence of senior Saudi and American officers, alongside representatives of Lockheed Martin and Fincantieri, who are participating in the project.
Al-Gharibi expressed his pleasure with this great achievement, emphasizing the Saudi leadership’s support for the development and armament of the naval forces, within the framework of enhancing field capabilities and preparedness for various potential threats.
The “Tuwaiq” project, which includes the newly constructed ship, falls under the goals of Vision 2030, which seeks to enhance the Kingdom’s maritime capabilities. These ships feature the latest advanced combat systems that enable them to effectively counter aerial, surface, and sub-surface threats. The project also includes the development of the King Abdulaziz Naval Base in Jubail to perform maintenance and training work, which supports the strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and the United States and contributes to the localization of local military industries.
