Swiss authorities have detained the managers of the “Lang Bang” restaurant, which was destroyed by fire in the city of Brig-Glis (140 kilometers from Zurich) on December 31, 2023, and charged them with premeditated murder and illegal business conduct, according to the German Press Agency (dpa). It is suspected that the growing crisis in the Middle East may be behind the bloody terrorist attack that claimed dozens of lives.
Swiss police arrested the restaurant managers, a man and a woman in their late twenties, yesterday, Tuesday. The German Press Agency, citing a statement from the judicial district in Brig-Glis, reported that the man was charged with “premeditated murder,” while the woman was charged with “illegal business conduct.”
Dozens of French citizens were injured in the terrorist attack that occurred on New Year’s Day, according to preliminary data indicating that between 30 and 35 French nationals were injured, while the total number of victims remains unconfirmed.
The restaurant was known by its Chinese name “Lang Bang” and was also known as the “Stars Restaurant.” The restaurant is located in an area containing modern towers, as well as administrative offices for the Sandex International Group, which operates hotels and resorts in Switzerland.
Swiss media, citing sources, reported that the police had monitored the suspects for a short period before the incident, noting that the investigation will continue to determine the motives and causes behind the incident.
