King Charles III announced the recording of a personal message addressing his experience with cancer, which will be broadcast as part of the current “Stand Up To Cancer” campaign, organized by Cancer Research UK and Channel 4.

The Royal Court stated that the King will speak about his “production journey” as a cancer patient, in a video message that will be shown on Friday at 20:00 GMT.

The message, which was recorded two weeks ago at Clarence House, will focus on the importance of regular cancer screenings to ensure early detection of the disease in as many people as possible.

This will be rare news about the King’s health, who has been receiving regular treatment since his diagnosis was announced in February 2024. However, it is rumored that the King will not specify the type of his cancer.

The annual “Stand Up To Cancer” campaign aims to raise funds to support medical research and treatment, and to encourage people to undergo screenings that increase the chances of early disease detection.

It seems that the King’s openness about his illness, and his living with cancer, had the goal of raising awareness and encouraging people to undergo diagnosis, and this will continue with this unusual and direct contribution.

Since the King announced his cancer diagnosis, he has adopted a continuous work methodology, maintaining a busy schedule despite regular treatment periods, rather than letting his illness define his identity.

This year, the 77-year-old King’s activities included several international trips, including a trip to Italy and Canada, and receiving a large number of official state visits to the United Kingdom, nearly 40 years, including the visit of the German President last week.

Before the announcement of the special broadcast, the King participated this week in a Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey, where the King noted that this is a time of optimism and “hope.”

The episode, broadcast by Channel 4 on Friday evening as part of the “Stand Up To Cancer” campaign, and presented by famous personalities such as Davina McCall, Adam Hills, and Clare Balding, will call for not being wary of undergoing cancer screenings.

All three presenters have been affected by cancer – McCall said last week that she underwent surgery for breast cancer, while Balding was treated more than 15 years ago for thyroid cancer, and comedian Hills previously showed solidarity with his father who died from stomach cancer and then leukemia.

The episode will address the approximately nine million people in the UK who are non-compliant with the National Health Service (NHS) diagnostic screening programs, with an online tool provided to help people find out if they are eligible for breast, bowel, and cervical cancer screenings.

To combat fear of diagnostic screenings and emphasize the value of early diagnosis, there will be live broadcasts from cancer clinics at Edinburgh and Royal Papworth Hospitals in Cambridge.

“I want to eliminate the fear surrounding diagnostic screenings and show everyone that they are not alone in this,” Davina McCall stated.

The “Stand Up To Cancer” campaign has been supported since 2012, spending approximately £113 million, funding 73 clinical trials involving 13,000 patients.

In a message to guests at a cancer fundraiser reception in April, the King spoke about his knowledge of the importance of “the recurrent fear and anxiety experienced at different times” by cancer patients and their families.

However, he pointed out that his experience of living with cancer showed him that “the darkest moments of illness can be illuminated by the greatest compassion,” and he praised the individuals who care for those with cancer.

The Royal Court has not disclosed the type of the King’s cancer or the treatment he is receiving. The King’s cancer was discovered after he underwent prostate surgery.
