The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced the approval of new regulatory requirements for transport vehicle repair workshops, as part of its efforts to enhance the quality of services provided to beneficiaries, raise health and safety standards, and address visual distortion in cities.
The requirements mandate that investors obtain a municipal license through the “Balady” platform and provide a valid commercial register including the activity, with the condition of obtaining approval from relevant authorities before commencing operations. Workshops are classified according to main activities, including: mechanical, electrical, and electronic repairs; bodywork and painting; tire and oil services; and battery testing.
The requirements include technical and architectural specifications, most notably: providing approved sites and spaces within industrial zones or commercial streets, adhering to urban facades compatible with the Building Code, setting up designated entrances and parking, and applying safety and fire prevention standards. Additionally, workshops must be equipped with lighting systems, surveillance cameras, and internal signs to display licenses.
The Ministry allowed the practice of some approved additional activities according to specific controls, the most important of which are: that the area of added activities does not exceed 50% of the total licensed area, and that the area of the additional activity is not less than 6 square meters, while maintaining the minimum area for the main activity. Homogeneous activities are permitted within the area stated in the license.
The Ministry emphasized adherence to operational controls, which include preventing the obstruction of sidewalks or public facilities, maintaining general cleanliness, managing waste and oils safely, providing electronic payment methods, and services accessible to persons with disabilities, along with employees obtaining the necessary professional certificates to practice the activity.
These requirements aim to raise the efficiency of transport vehicle repair workshops and achieve safety and quality standards. They are subject to field inspections by the relevant municipal authorities to ensure compliance and improve the urban environment, supporting the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in urban development and quality of life.
