Opportunity for Sports Fans to Get Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Tickets at Discounted Prices
Sports fans can now register for a chance to obtain tickets for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with prices starting as low as $28 (£21).
The registration process has opened for fans to enter the secret indicative lottery covering all events scheduled for the Olympic Games. The registration period will remain open until mid-March.
If selected, fans will be notified via email and assigned a specific time slot to shop for tickets in April. One million tickets will be offered at the $28 price point, and approximately one-third of the total tickets to be sold will be priced under $100 (£74.41).
“These games belong to everyone,” said Casey Wasserman, Chairman of the Los Angeles 2028 Committee, on Tuesday, adding: “These games must be affordable and inclusive with equity.”
The announcement of affordable ticket prices follows public criticism directed at the ticket prices for the 2026 Men’s FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States along with Canada and Mexico.
Los Angeles officials told reporters on Tuesday that affordability and accessibility were central to their ticket campaign and their desire for fans from all over the world to be able to attend the Games.
Ticket prices for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games started at approximately $27.95 (£21).
A special early purchase window will also open for residents in the Los Angeles and Oklahoma City areas, where some Olympic events will be hosted.
2028 will mark the first time the Olympic Games have been held in the United States since the 1996 Atlanta Games. Los Angeles has hosted the Olympics twice before—in 1932 and 1984—and its plans will utilize existing infrastructure for accommodation.
Event organizers met with hundreds of Olympians and Paralympians at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday in a ceremony to light the Olympic cauldron in preparation for opening ticket registration.
The stadium witnessed events in both previous times Los Angeles hosted the Olympics, and it is scheduled to host the opening ceremony and athletic competitions in 2028.
Event organizers explained how the ticketing system will work.
Once registered—using a name, email, and zip code—fans will be entered into the indicative draw to determine a time slot for ticket shopping in April. The earlier the shopping time slot a fan receives, the better their chance of securing tickets, as receiving a time slot does not guarantee that tickets will be available when the window opens.
The first batch of tickets will be offered for sale from April 9 to April 19. The first ticket offering will include admission to both the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games.
Most games will take place throughout Los Angeles and Southern California, but canoe and softball events will be held in the state of Oklahoma.
Alyson Katz-Mayfield, an official for the LA28 Committee, described the appointment draw process as “the safest way to ensure the greatest number of people have a chance to get tickets, and to keep things fair for everyone.”
She added, “Regardless of when you shop, whether you are the first person or the last, you have an equal chance.”
Registration for the Games’ tickets will remain open until March 18, and there is no advantage to registering early.
