Trump attacks Representative Ilhan Omar over her financial dealings and sparks widespread controversy
President Donald Trump accused Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota of possessing a fortune estimated at approximately $30 million. Trump claimed in a post on the “Truth Social” platform that this wealth “cannot be legally accumulated on a political salary.” In his post, Trump urged that action be taken against Omar, emphasizing the “need to investigate her for financial and political crimes, and to start the investigation now.”
This attack comes as the latest wave of increasingly sharp statements directed by Trump toward Representative Omar, whom he has previously called to “either be imprisoned or deported to Somalia” in past remarks.
Trump published a new post focusing on the scale of financial shifting in the state of Minnesota, saying: “There is $19 billion in ‘Somali’ fraud in Minnesota. Representative Ilhan Omar, the permanent complainer who hates the United States, knows everything there is to know about this.” He added, “She should be in prison, or even a worse punishment; sending her back to Somalia, which is considered one of the worst countries in the world ever. She can help make Somalia great again!”
It is noted that Representative Omar has been subjected to repeated attacks from Republican members of Congress and biased media coverage in right-wing media outlets due to her being an immigrant from Somalia. President Trump previously described the Somali population as “garbage” and foul-smelling during a press conference last year, suggesting they had contributed nothing to the United States.
For her part, Representative Omar responded to Trump’s attacks, considering them often driven by a negative news cycle surrounding the Trump administration. She told The Guardian: “When things aren’t going well for him, he starts stirring up bigotry.”
