Trump: I saved NATO from collapse.

2 Min Read

President Donald Trump claimed that he was the one who saved NATO, telling reporters that the alliance “would not exist” if he had not taken power. He emphasized his belief in himself as the savior of the alliance, highlighting his statements regarding Greenland.

Trump’s remarks coincided with his stance on the annexation of Greenland, which has sparked concern and panic among NATO countries. In response, Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken, during a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Belgium Bill White and NATO Representative Matthew Whitaker, asserted that “Greenland is not Venezuela or Iran,” considering it a “vital issue for the survival of the alliance,” and urged against proceeding with the annexation attempt.

For her part, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that any American attack on Greenland could lead to the collapse of NATO and the security system established after World War II.

Last Friday, Trump stated that he would do something about Greenland “whether they like it or not,” adding, “I prefer to arrange the deal the easy way, and if the easy way doesn’t work, it will be done the hard way.”

He pointed out that the United States needs to own Greenland to ensure national security, stressing that leasing the island would not be enough and would not “satisfy” his demands.
