Trump attacks Biden: “Gave $350 billion to Ukraine for nothing”
President Donald Trump attacked his rival, Joe Biden, pointing to a deal involving natural resources with Ukraine. He told reporters: “As you know, Sleepy Joe Biden gave Ukraine $350 billion and got nothing in return. I got the rare earth elements back. I think I got back much more value.”
Trump expressed his confidence that this deal is exactly what his predecessor Biden should have done.
Trump’s remarks come in response to an agreement reached between the United States and Ukraine last April 30 regarding Ukrainian natural resources. The agreement stipulates granting the United States priority rights to purchase products extracted from Ukraine.
The agreement also includes the establishment of an investment fund in Ukraine, which will be contributed to and managed equally by both parties. The investment period spans 10 years, in addition to the provision of military aid to Ukraine from the United States, which is considered a contribution from the US leadership to the fund.
Ukrainian concerns regarding the agreement
Some Ukrainian politicians viewed the agreement as a threat to Ukraine. Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Dubinsky declared that the agreement is a “sell-out of the motherland” and that it does not serve any budgetary or national interests of Ukraine.
