Trump: US ships moving toward Iran, but hopes to avoid hostilities.

1 Min Read

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday the movement of US military vessels toward Iran, emphasizing that they are heading there “in anticipation of any emergency.”

Speaking to reporters aboard the presidential aircraft, Boeing 747—known as “Air Force One”—Trump said: “We have many ships heading there, and we have a large fleet heading there,” noting that “we have a great force heading toward Iran.”

The US President added, “We will see what happens,” remaining non-committal regarding future developments in the situation.

Indicating a desire not to escalate the situation, Trump continued: “I would prefer that nothing happens, but we are watching them very closely,” noting that the United States is closely monitoring Iranian statements.

This announcement comes at a time of rising tension between the United States and Iran following a recent wave of protests in the country.

The Iranian government recently announced the cancellation of scheduled executions of protesters, a move President Trump touched upon in his answers to reporters.
