3 Min Read

Turkey, Qatar, and Jordan welcomed on Sunday evening the signing of a ceasefire agreement by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa with the SDF forces, including their full integration into the Syrian army, following intense battles on both sides of the Euphrates River over the past two days. Meanwhile, the US Envoy to Syria, Tom Brack, described the agreement as a “pivotal turning point.”

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its hope that the agreement signed between the Syrian government and the SDF would “push stabilization efforts forward based on Syria’s territorial integrity” and contribute “to the security and peace of the Syrian people and neighboring countries.”

The Turkish Foreign Ministry stated: “We hope it has become completely clear that the future of Syria lies in unity and integration, not in terrorism and division.”

Qatari Position

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the signing of the ceasefire and full integration agreement between the Syrian government and the SDF is an “important step toward consolidating civil peace, enhancing security and stability, and building a state of institutions and law.”

The Ministry emphasized that Syria’s stability and prosperity “require the state’s monopoly on weapons within a single army that represents all Syrian components.”

In turn, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the signed agreement as an “important step toward strengthening Syria’s unity, stability, and security.”

Ministry spokesperson Fouad al-Majali said in a statement that Jordan supports the security, stability, sovereignty, territorial integrity of Syria, and the safety of its citizens.

The agreement concluded between President al-Sharaa and SDF leader Mazloum Abdi stipulates a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire on all fronts and contact points between Syrian government forces and the SDF, with the withdrawal of all SDF military formations to the east of the Euphrates as a preliminary step for redeployment.

US Envoy to Syria Tom Brack welcomed the agreement in a post on his X account, describing it as a “pivotal turning point where former adversaries move toward partnership instead of division.”

Earlier today, al-Sharaa received the US Envoy to Syria. The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that during his meeting with the US envoy, the Syrian President emphasized “Syria’s unity and sovereignty over its entire territory, the importance of dialogue in the current stage, and building Syria with the participation of all Syrians, alongside continued coordination of efforts in combating terrorism.”
