Tennis legend David Wawrinka reveals plan to play for four more years

Swiss tennis legend David Wawrinka, who previously played under the name “Stepan Wawrinka” and turned professional in 2002, will turn 41 in March, and is set to continue playing for four more years in the professional tennis world he conquered decades ago. Wawrinka has won 16 titles, including three Grand Slams and the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 in 2014.

Wawrinka achieved gold for Switzerland in the men’s doubles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in partnership with Roger Federer. Wawrinka is known for his powerful backhand, which played a major role in his victories over world number one players in all the Grand Slam finals he participated in.

Wawrinka has suffered from injuries in recent years and is currently ranked outside the world’s top 150. However, Wawrinka confirmed, “I still want to train seriously and finish this journey as best as possible; we are still living dreams in this sport.”

Wawrinka continued: “I have enjoyed every part of what I offer in the world of tennis, especially the emotions I feel when playing in front of you. I look forward to seeing you again all over the world.”

Wawrinka will return to play in the United Cup in Perth on January 1st.
