The U.S. Senate witnessed a notable shift in its position regarding the war with Iran after lawmakers held a second vote on a resolution aimed at limiting President Donald Trump\u2019s military authority. The revised outcome ultimately provided the administration with renewed political support as negotiations with Tehran continue over several sensitive issues.<\/p>\n

Senators Reverse Course, Changing the Outcome<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Just one day after the Senate adopted a resolution calling for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the war with Iran, lawmakers voted again on Wednesday evening, producing a result opposite to the previous one and more closely aligned with the policies of the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

The new vote came after Trump sharply criticized senators, arguing that the earlier vote created the impression that the Senate was standing alongside Iran against his administration\u2019s strategy.<\/p>\n

Several Republican senators changed their positions and played a decisive role in reversing the outcome. Senator Rand Paul abstained from voting after previously supporting efforts to limit Trump\u2019s authority in managing the conflict, while Senator Bill Cassidy voted against the resolution after supporting it during the initial vote.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Republican Senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski maintained their support for the measure, while Democratic Senator John Fetterman once again voted against it. The resolution was ultimately defeated by a vote of 50 to 47, a result widely viewed as a political victory for the president against attempts to restrict his military options.<\/p>\n

Trump welcomed the new outcome, stating on Truth Social that the Senate had reversed its Iran-related vote from 50\u201348 in favor of the resolution to 50\u201347 against it.<\/p>\n

He also praised Rand Paul and Bill Cassidy for changing their positions and thanked Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Senator Lindsey Graham, Senator Bernie Moreno, and several other lawmakers who supported him during the voting process.<\/p>\n

The president described the new result as a clear message to Tehran, saying the vote represented \u201ca warning message to Iran\u201d amid ongoing developments.<\/p>\n

Sharp Criticism and Debate Over War Powers<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Tensions had already been high before the second vote. Following Tuesday\u2019s vote, Trump reportedly rebuked several Republican senators during a private luncheon and engaged in heated discussions with them over their support for a war powers resolution that could have restricted any additional military operations against Iran.<\/p>\n

In a related development, the president continued attacking lawmakers who backed the measure, accusing some of weakening the United States\u2019 position during a sensitive period in dealing with the Iranian issue.<\/p>\n

In a Truth Social post, Trump claimed that Iran was in an extremely difficult position and had become willing to make major concessions, adding that Tehran was showing considerable respect for both the United States and its president.<\/p>\n

He argued that the vote on the War Powers Resolution came at the wrong time and lacked practical value, asserting that it sent Iran a signal that Washington did not support his policy, which he viewed as indirect support for America\u2019s adversaries.<\/p>\n

Trump also criticized four Republican senators who joined Democrats during the first vote, saying their positions had made his job more difficult. Nevertheless, he stressed that he would continue pursuing his objectives \u201cone way or another.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Senate had initially approved the resolution on Tuesday by a vote of 50 to 48, calling for an end to U.S. military operations against Iran after it had previously been passed by the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n

Although the resolution carries no binding legal force, it is considered the first formal congressional position regarding war powers related to the conflict with Iran. It also reflects growing concern within the U.S. legislative branch\u2014including among some Republicans\u2014about continued American military involvement, while the Trump administration continues negotiations with Tehran over Iran\u2019s nuclear program and several other issues.<\/p>\n
