Russia Vows to Continue Pressuring Ukraine After the Largest Attack on Kyiv<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Following an aerial assault described as the most intense since the outbreak of the war, Russia declared its determination to maintain military pressure on Ukraine, asserting that its forces have made battlefield advances on several fronts while intercepting hundreds of Ukrainian drones over the past few hours. The developments come amid growing Western calls to increase military support for Kyiv and impose tougher sanctions on Moscow.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the European Union’s announcement that it intends to introduce a new package of sanctions against Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow “will continue increasing pressure on the Kyiv regime” until it achieves the objectives set at the outset of its military operation, stressing that Western sanctions will not alter the course of Russian military operations.<\/p>\n

Massive Attack on Kyiv and Mutual Losses<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Russian statements came just hours after a large-scale aerial attack targeted the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. According to Ukrainian authorities, the assault killed at least 17 people and injured dozens more, in what the city’s mayor described as the largest attack on the capital since the beginning of the war.<\/p>\n

Throughout the night, a series of explosions echoed across Kyiv as thousands of residents rushed to shelters and metro stations seeking protection, in scenes reflecting the scale of the military escalation on the Ukrainian front.<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian Air Force announced that Russia launched 74 missiles and 496 drones during the attack, stating that air defenses intercepted the majority of them. However, 25 ballistic missiles and 12 drones managed to strike 33 locations across the country, causing extensive damage to infrastructure and residential areas.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense systems had intercepted 11 guided aerial bombs and 631 Ukrainian drones over the past 24 hours, describing it as one of the largest air defense operations since the outbreak of the war.<\/p>\n

The ministry stated that Russian forces continued advancing along several combat axes, noting that assault units of the South Group of Forces are close to completing the clearing of the city of Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic of the remaining Ukrainian formations.<\/p>\n

It added that Ukrainian forces suffered approximately 1,465 casualties across all fronts during the past 24 hours, distributed across the northern, western, southern, central, eastern, and Dnipro operational axes.<\/p>\n

The ministry further stated that combat aircraft, attack drones, missile forces, and artillery targeted Ukrainian long-range drone launch sites, transportation infrastructure facilities, and temporary deployment areas for Ukrainian forces and foreign fighters at 153 different locations.<\/p>\n

Moscow also announced that Black Sea Fleet forces had destroyed an unmanned Ukrainian boat in the northeastern part of the Black Sea as part of ongoing operations to secure the maritime domain.<\/p>\n

Kyiv Calls for Greater Support as Europe Signals New Sanctions<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In response, Ukraine renewed its appeal to allies to strengthen its defensive capabilities following the large-scale Russian attack on the capital. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged the United States to allow Ukraine to manufacture Patriot missiles domestically, arguing that strengthening air defense systems remains the most effective way to stop repeated Russian attacks.<\/p>\n

The military escalation coincided with European efforts to increase pressure on Moscow. Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, announced that she would propose new sanctions targeting entities supporting Russia’s military-industrial complex, while Moscow insisted that such measures would not affect its military strategy.<\/p>\n

In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko declared Friday a day of public mourning following the attack, which left dozens dead and injured and caused extensive damage across several districts of the capital, home to approximately three million people.<\/p>\n

At dawn on Thursday, rescue teams continued searching through the rubble of a nine-story residential building on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, while fires broke out in the surrounding area as a result of the bombardment. Local officials reported that around 90 people had been injured, including children, paramedics, and ambulance drivers, noting that several residents remained trapped beneath the debris.<\/p>\n

At the same time, metro stations became heavily crowded as thousands of residents sought shelter carrying their children, belongings, and pets, while authorities maintained a state of alert in anticipation of further attacks amid the continuing military confrontation and the widening escalation between the two sides.<\/p>\n
