Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, came under a large-scale Russian missile attack early Sunday, leaving at least one person dead and nine others injured, according to Ukrainian authorities. The strike came as fighting continued along the front lines, with Moscow announcing new territorial gains in the eastern regions of Kharkiv and Donetsk.<\/p>\n

A series of powerful explosions echoed across the capital after Russian forces launched, according to Ukrainian reports, more than 20 ballistic missiles targeting Kyiv and its surrounding areas, marking another escalation amid the ongoing conflict between the two sides.<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian Air Force issued urgent warnings of a ballistic missile threat, while a Reuters witness reported hearing multiple powerful explosions shaking the city during the early morning hours.<\/p>\n

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said via Telegram that the strikes ignited fires at several locations, including a student residence, a residential building, and a supermarket, while causing damage to multiple other facilities.<\/p>\n

He added that the attack also struck non-residential buildings and warehouses, with parked vehicles and administrative buildings catching fire in several districts of the capital, as firefighters and emergency crews continued efforts to extinguish the fires and evacuate affected residents.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that two people were injured in the area surrounding the capital and that several warehouses sustained material damage as a result of the shelling. No final assessment of the overall damage has yet been released.<\/p>\n

Kyiv Under Fire as Civilian Infrastructure Sustains Damage<\/h3>\n

The latest strikes come amid continued Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities, with Moscow and Kyiv continuing to accuse each other of targeting civilian infrastructure and public facilities.<\/p>\n

According to preliminary reports, Russia used more than 20 ballistic missiles in the assault, triggering multiple fires across different parts of the capital and damaging several civilian buildings and facilities.<\/p>\n

The destruction extended beyond residential buildings to include warehouses, administrative structures, and parked vehicles at multiple locations, while local authorities continued assessing the full extent of the damage.<\/p>\n

The escalation comes as Kyiv has faced repeated aerial and missile attacks throughout the war, with Ukrainian air defenses continuing to intercept a portion of the projectiles targeting the capital and other major cities.<\/p>\n

Moscow Announces New Advances in Kharkiv and Donetsk<\/h3>\n

On the ground, Russian media reported that Russian forces continued advancing in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, announcing the capture of the village of Volokhovskoye and the start of new operations aimed at taking the neighboring village of Zakharovka in the Kharkiv region.<\/p>\n

Russia’s TASS news agency quoted military expert Andrey Marochko as saying that Russian forces had effectively pushed Ukrainian troops out of Volokhovskoye before launching military operations toward Zakharovka.<\/p>\n

Marochko added that Russian forces had made what he described as significant progress over the past week along the Vovchansk axis, expanding their control in that sector.<\/p>\n

In the same context, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov stated that the Zapad (West) Group continued advancing along a broad section of the front within Ukraine’s combat zone.<\/p>\n

Gerasimov said that the village of Mirnoye had come under Russian control, while military operations were approaching the completion of the capture of the villages of Shevchenko, Krasnoyarskoye, and Svetly.<\/p>\n

He further stated that units of Russia’s Third Army had captured the village of Peskonovka on the Sloviansk\u2013Kramatorsk axis and had reached the outskirts of Mykolaivka, with advancing forces positioned less than five kilometers from the eastern edge of Kramatorsk.<\/p>\n

Gerasimov also said on Saturday that the Center Group continued advancing north of Krasnoarmiysk, while engaging in combat around the towns of Dobropillia and Anivka, as military operations continued along the eastern front amid ongoing fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces across several key sectors.<\/p>\n
