Eighth Wave of U.S. Strikes Targets Iran in Response to Jordan Attack<\/h2>\n

Early Sunday, the U.S. military announced a new wave of airstrikes against targets in Iran in response to attacks on its forces in Jordan that killed two American service members, marking the first such operation since military confrontations between Washington and Tehran resumed.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the military operations were part of a direct response to the Iranian attack and were aimed at degrading Tehran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, while also striking Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which Washington holds responsible for the attack on U.S. troops in Jordan.<\/p>\n

CENTCOM stated that these operations represent the eighth consecutive wave of U.S. strikes against Iran, noting that they targeted coastal surveillance facilities, Iranian military air defense systems, and other military sites associated with the country’s naval and missile capabilities.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said the eighth consecutive night of strikes targeted coastal observation posts, air defense installations, and missile and drone storage facilities. It added that the operations are part of ongoing efforts to weaken Iran’s military capabilities and reduce its ability to threaten international maritime navigation.<\/p>\n

The command also said the strikes targeted members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which Washington accused of orchestrating the July 17 attack on U.S. forces in Jordan.<\/p>\n

Continued Escalation Between Washington and Tehran<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Earlier, CENTCOM had announced the start of the eighth round of airstrikes against Iran, stating that the operation began at 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time.<\/p>\n

It said the primary objectives were to reduce Iranian capabilities that threaten maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and to deliver a rapid military response to the attack on U.S. forces in Jordan the previous night.<\/p>\n

These developments came hours after CENTCOM announced on Saturday that two U.S. service members had been killed and a third remained missing following an Iranian attack on U.S. military positions in Jordan, amid escalating military exchanges between Washington and Tehran.<\/p>\n

In a post on X, CENTCOM stated that the two soldiers were killed while carrying out their duties as U.S. and partner forces defended against Iranian attacks involving ballistic missiles and drones, adding that one service member remains missing.<\/p>\n

Exchange of Strikes and Collapse of the Ceasefire<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Meanwhile, Iran continued launching attacks on Saturday targeting several Gulf countries and Jordan, as Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei intensified his rhetoric against the United States, warning Washington of “unforgettable lessons” and describing U.S. President Donald Trump’s signature as “worthless and void,” according to a written statement.<\/p>\n

The escalation follows the collapse of the temporary agreement reached last month to halt hostilities between the two sides. Fighting resumed on July 7 after Iran targeted vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting the United States to respond with airstrikes on targets inside Iranian territory.<\/p>\n

Since then, Tehran has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a move that has heightened regional tensions and raised concerns over global shipping routes and energy supplies. At the same time, Washington has tightened its economic measures by reimposing a blockade on Iranian ports while continuing reciprocal military operations, signaling that the confrontation is expanding with no immediate prospects for de-escalation.<\/p>\n
