Between Escalation and Diplomacy: Iran Confirms Continued Communication with Washington Through Mediators<\/h2>\n

Despite ongoing U.S. military strikes on targets inside Iran, Tehran confirmed on Monday that diplomatic communication channels with Washington remain open through intermediaries, stressing that it will continue managing the political and military confrontation in a manner that serves its national interests, as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate over security in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that Tehran sees no contradiction between diplomatic engagement and military preparedness, noting that Iran’s policy will continue to pursue both tracks as required by the country’s national interests.<\/p>\n

Baghaei’s remarks came in response to a question about whether recent developments had closed the door to dialogue with the United States. Rejecting the notion that the choices are limited to either war or diplomacy, he said: “Diplomacy is a tool through which we seek to achieve our national interests, just like war,” indicating that Tehran does not view the two approaches as mutually exclusive.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson added that communication has not been interrupted in recent days, confirming that Iran has received messages through intermediaries and that its diplomatic apparatus has remained active despite the military escalation.<\/p>\n

“We have been contacted through intermediaries and received messages in recent days. Without going into details, what matters is that our diplomatic apparatus has remained active, and ideas have been conveyed to us through several mediators,” he said.<\/p>\n

Strait of Hormuz at the Center of the Crisis<\/h3>\n

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Tehran stressed that it will not allow the strategic waterway to be used in any way that threatens its security or national interests, amid growing disputes with the United States over the future of navigation through the strait.<\/p>\n

Baghaei stated that Iran “will not allow this waterway to be misused again to threaten its interests and national security,” adding that Tehran is determined to take whatever measures it deems necessary to defend its sovereignty and protect its national interests.<\/p>\n

The Iranian official also addressed the case of an Iranian-American citizen recently released from an Iranian prison, stating that she had not been detained on espionage-related charges, seeking to clarify the circumstances surrounding the case.<\/p>\n

Washington Continues Its Ninth Consecutive Wave of Strikes<\/h3>\n

Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the U.S. military had completed its ninth consecutive round of strikes against Iran, targeting coastal surveillance facilities, air defense systems, and other military installations.<\/p>\n

In a statement published on X, CENTCOM said the operation targeted Iranian military command centers, air defense sites, coastal surveillance facilities, naval capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, as well as military communications networks.<\/p>\n

The U.S. command stated that the objective of the strikes is to “further degrade Iran’s ability to attack commercial vessels and civilian mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz,” as part of Washington’s ongoing military operations in the region.<\/p>\n

Late Sunday into Monday, the U.S. military announced the launch of a new wave of attacks\u2014the ninth since the renewed escalation\u2014stating that the operations would continue targeting Iranian military capabilities used to threaten maritime navigation.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that the city of Tabriz came under U.S. strikes, with explosions also heard in Bandar Mahshahr and Bandar Imam Khomeini in southwestern Iran. The Iranian Mehr News Agency also reported that air defense systems had been activated in Konarak, alongside reports of explosions in Chabahar in southeastern Iran.<\/p>\n

Iranian authorities did not immediately disclose details regarding the extent of the damage or the specific targets struck. However, Iran’s Ministry of Health stated that the ongoing U.S. strikes since June 27 have resulted in at least 50 fatalities and more than 500 injuries, as the military confrontation continues alongside diplomatic efforts that have not yet ceased.<\/p>\n
