Declaration of Principles Forces Meet in Nairobi to Unify the Peace Process and End the War in Sudan<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Sudanese Declaration of Principles Forces<\/strong> are holding a meeting today, Tuesday, in Nairobi, Kenya<\/strong>, to discuss the latest developments in the war in Sudan and review the course of the political process. The meeting comes amid continued military confrontations across several fronts, a worsening humanitarian crisis, and ongoing regional and international efforts to unify mediation tracks and advance a settlement to end the conflict.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued at the opening of the meeting, the coalition said the agenda includes reviewing the latest military, humanitarian, and political developments, as well as evaluating the performance of regional and international initiatives and mediation efforts aimed at ending the war. Participants will also assess the key challenges that have faced the political process in recent months.<\/p>\n

The statement stressed that participants will work to formulate a unified vision aimed at coordinating international and regional efforts, strengthening pressure to halt the fighting, protect civilians, ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those affected, and launch a Sudanese-led political process to address the root causes of the crisis and achieve a comprehensive and sustainable settlement.<\/p>\n

The Declaration of Principles Forces reaffirmed their rejection of a military solution, emphasizing that ending the war cannot be achieved through armed confrontation but rather through a political consensus involving civilian and democratic forces opposed to the conflict. They also stressed the importance of continued coordination with regional and international partners to reach a solution that preserves Sudan\u2019s unity and sovereignty while paving the way for a new social contract founded on the principles of peace, freedom, and justice.<\/p>\n

Continuation of the Nairobi Consultations and Commitment to a Unified Negotiation Track<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The current meeting builds on the consultations hosted in Nairobi last May, during which participants signed the Declaration of Principles for Building a New Nation, bringing together political alliances, parties, civilian groups, and a number of public figures in an effort to unify the positions of Sudan\u2019s civilian forces regarding the future of the country’s political process.<\/p>\n

The final communiqu\u00e9 of that meeting reaffirmed commitment to the New Nation Project as a framework based on the principles of freedom, peace, and justice. It also called for the establishment of a broad civilian front with a unified anti-war position and for restoring Sudan\u2019s democratic transition, which was disrupted by the outbreak of the conflict.<\/p>\n

The signatories also rejected any political settlement that grants immunity to those implicated in human rights violations or war crimes, stressing that accountability is a fundamental pillar of any future political process.<\/p>\n

In the same context, they called for all regional and international platforms addressing the Sudanese crisis to be unified under a single negotiation track based on the Quadrilateral Roadmap issued in September 2025, arguing that the proliferation of initiatives and overlapping mediation tracks have weakened the prospects for a political agreement and prolonged the war.<\/p>\n

The Declaration of Principles Forces stated that unifying the efforts of mediators would strengthen the chances of reaching a comprehensive settlement that ends the conflict and provides a common foundation for launching a political transition that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people.<\/p>\n

In its concluding statement, the coalition held the National Congress Party and the Islamic Movement (Muslim Brotherhood) responsible for the outbreak of the war, which began on 15 April 2023, and for its continuation, describing the conflict as an attempt to derail the democratic transition that began following the December 2018 Revolution.<\/p>\n

The coalition further emphasized that the next phase requires stronger coordination among civilian forces and greater political unity to support efforts aimed at ending the war, creating the conditions necessary to resume the political process, and reaching a settlement that alleviates civilian suffering while preserving Sudan\u2019s unity and stability.<\/p>\n
