Yemeni Defense Minister Affirms Continued Efforts to Secure a Decisive Victory Against the Houthis<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Yemeni Defense Minister Lieutenant General Taher Al-Aqili affirmed on Sunday that the Yemeni Armed Forces remain committed to securing a decisive victory against the Houthi movement, describing the group as the “theocratic tool” responsible for implementing Iran’s regional agenda. He also emphasized the continuation of coordination with the Saudi-led Coalition to Support Legitimacy and international partners to confront its security threats.<\/p>\n

In a post on X, Al-Aqili stated that the Houthi movement has demonstrated since its inception, and for more than a decade, that it relies on “cycles of violence, terrorism, and piracy.” He added that the group has continued targeting the resources of the Yemeni people while exploiting the country’s strategic geographic location to threaten international shipping and neighboring countries.<\/p>\n

He added that the Yemeni Armed Forces, in line with their constitutional duties, will continue, in close coordination with the Coalition to Support Legitimacy and international partners, to confront what he described as “Houthi terrorism,” which threatens the security of maritime routes and international navigation.<\/p>\n

The Yemeni defense minister stressed that achieving lasting security and stability in Yemen and the region will only be possible\u2014according to his remarks\u2014by ending the influence of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which he said the Houthi movement represents, and by restoring state control over all Yemeni territory.<\/p>\n

Continued Military Escalation and Attacks on Maritime Navigation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Al-Aqili’s remarks come amid an escalation in military operations against the Houthis, coinciding with ongoing U.S. strikes targeting the group’s military capabilities as part of a campaign that Washington says is aimed at protecting international shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden following a series of attacks on commercial and military vessels.<\/p>\n

Since late 2023, the Houthis have intensified attacks using missiles and drones against ships transiting the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, while the United States and several Western countries maintain that these attacks pose a threat to one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes, through which a significant share of global commerce passes.<\/p>\n

Government Reviews Escalation and Response Plans<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In a related development, a government meeting held on Sunday in the temporary capital, Aden, chaired by Yemeni Prime Minister Shaye Al-Zandani, discussed the implications of the continued Houthi attacks on commercial vessels and their impact on the security of the Red Sea and international shipping lanes.<\/p>\n

According to the Yemen News Agency (SABA), the meeting reviewed the government’s strategies for dealing with various potential scenarios in order to ensure the stability of local markets, maintain the flow of imports, and preserve strategic reserves of essential commodities, food supplies, and fuel.<\/p>\n

Participants also reviewed the strategy of the government’s Crisis Management Committee, which aims to enhance the readiness of state institutions to respond to any expected escalation and mitigate its security, political, economic, and service-related consequences.<\/p>\n

Meeting participants stressed that the continued targeting of commercial vessels by the Houthis not only threatens international maritime security but also increases the economic and humanitarian burdens facing the Yemeni people while undermining prospects for peace and stability in the country. They considered these attacks to be part of the implementation of Iran’s regional agenda.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Shaye Al-Zandani emphasized that the government continues to update its emergency strategies and raise its level of preparedness to respond to various developments, helping to reduce the impact of any potential escalation on citizens and the national economy.<\/p>\n

He also praised the support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Yemeni government, affirming that this assistance has strengthened the capacity of state institutions to meet their economic and public service obligations.<\/p>\n

Concluding the meeting, Al-Zandani reaffirmed that the government will continue working in coordination with the Saudi-led Coalition to Support Legitimacy and its international partners to safeguard international maritime security, restore state institutions, and reestablish sovereignty over all Yemeni territory as part of efforts aimed at restoring stability and ending the consequences of the ongoing conflict.<\/p>\n
