Putin\u2019s remarks came less than 24 hours after an unusual appeal by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during his meeting with the Russian president in Omsk, where he called for an end to the war and a freeze in hostilities. He stressed that the continued conflict is costing young lives and urged a return to the Istanbul peace talks as a step toward achieving lasting peace, in a rare public stance from one of Moscow\u2019s closest allies.<\/p>\n

Although Putin did not respond directly to Tokayev\u2019s comments, he merely stated that he would brief him on the \u201cdetails\u201d of the war\u2019s progress, while continuing to emphasize Russia\u2019s commitment to its military objectives.
