{"id":145375,"date":"2026-09-20T09:51:41","date_gmt":"2026-09-20T09:51:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/un-news.org\/?p=145375"},"modified":"2026-09-20T09:51:43","modified_gmt":"2026-09-20T09:51:43","slug":"north-korea-launches-an-unidentified-projectile-following-its-nuclear-message","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/un-news.org\/en\/north-korea-launches-an-unidentified-projectile-following-its-nuclear-message\/","title":{"rendered":"North Korea Launches an Unidentified Projectile Following Its Nuclear Message"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">North Korea launched an unidentified projectile toward its eastern coast today, Sunday, South Korea\u2019s military announced, days after Pyongyang reaffirmed its status as a nuclear-armed state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The launch came eight days after North Korea launched a series of short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, as part of what it later described as a joint firepower exercise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The move also coincided with Pyongyang\u2019s rejection this week of a decision by the International Atomic Energy Agency renewing its call for an end to its nuclear activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a brief statement that \u201cNorth Korea launched an unidentified projectile toward the East Sea.\u201d The Japanese Prime Minister\u2019s Office confirmed the launch, saying via the \u201cX\u201d platform that the projectile was \u201cpossibly a ballistic missile.\u201d Japan\u2019s Defense Ministry later announced that the projectile had \u201calready fallen,\u201d without providing further details.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">North Korea had accused \u201chostile forces\u201d of seeking to end its nuclear program during the International Atomic Energy Agency\u2019s General Conference held this week. A spokesperson for the North Korean Foreign Ministry said the agency\u2019s resolution \u201chas no effect on the status of the Democratic People\u2019s Republic of Korea as a state possessing nuclear weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Pyongyang has legally cemented its status as a nuclear state, affirming that its nuclear arsenal is sustainable and irreversible.
