Amid the renewed escalation and mutual threats between Washington and Tehran recently, diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions are continuing, as Pakistani Interior Minister \u201cMohsin Naqvi\u201d is visiting the Iranian capital today, Monday, according to the news agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.<\/p>\n
The visit comes at a time when Iran earlier today renewed its warnings against a new U.S. attack on its territory. Iranian Revolutionary Guard spokesman \u201cHossein Mohabbi\u201d warned that any new attack would prompt Tehran to change the geography of the war and the type of weapons used, in his words.<\/p>\n
Iranian forces had also warned yesterday, Sunday, of a U.S. plan to resume the war and launch attacks on Iranian territory. The Unified Combat Command of the Iranian Armed Forces said in a statement that Tehran had received information indicating that the United States was preparing to resume combat operations, stressing that any U.S. attack would be met with continued strikes on U.S. bases and interests.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, U.S. President \u201cDonald Trump\u201d said yesterday that \u201csomething very big could happen very soon regarding Iran,\u201d indicating that he was preparing to make a decision in the near future. \u201cTrump\u201d also spoke of three options before him: \u201ccompletely wiping out and destroying Iran, letting it rot economically, or reaching a deal and agreement,\u201d in his words.<\/p>\n
Despite those threats, \u201cTrump\u201d indicated that he \u201cwould be open to the idea of meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in New York,\u201d on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings expected tomorrow, Tuesday. Over the past months, Pakistan has emerged as one of the main mediators between Washington and Tehran, amid escalating tensions between the two sides. In this context, the Pakistani interior minister has made a series of visits to Tehran since last May, the most recent of which was in August, when he met with Iranian officials and discussed with them efforts to contain tensions and advance the diplomatic track.<\/p>\n
News reports indicate that Naqvi has visited Iran at least four times since the outbreak of the war on February 28. The preliminary agreement reached by Washington and Tehran in June collapsed following disagreements over a number of issues, foremost among them the Strait of Hormuz and its management, while U.S. forces resumed strikes on some Iranian sites and oil vessels. The United States also continued its naval blockade of Iranian ports, alongside imposing additional sanctions.<\/p>\n
