The South Korean president\u2019s call comes at a time when North Korea continues to test its weapons, despite the United States reducing the scope of a joint military exercise with South Korea, in a move aimed at easing and lowering tensions with Pyongyang. The Korean Central News Agency reported that the Missile Administration conducted a \u201csuccessful test of a new type of weapon\u201d on Sunday in the presence of \u201cKim Jong Un.\u201d<\/p>\n
North Korea did not reveal the nature of the weapons system that was tested, but confirmed that the test was \u201cof great significance to the rapid technological development of weapons systems.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cKim\u201d described the test as \u201cundoubtedly a striking demonstration of highly advanced defense technology\u201d and \u201ca clear renewal in the modernization of the armed forces,\u201d according to the agency. \u201cKim\u201d said his country\u2019s adversaries would better understand the military significance of this technological advancement, noting that the technology would be important for strengthening the country\u2019s war readiness and developing its armed forces in the future.<\/p>\n
The agency added that \u201cKim\u201d stressed that this development \u201cwill cause the enemy an incurable headache and an unavoidable severe blow.\u201d The announcement came two days after South Korea\u2019s Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea had launched two short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea from the Wonsan area.<\/p>\n
