Amid continued mutual threats between Tehran and Washington, Iranian Parliament Speaker \u201cMohammad Bagher Ghalibaf\u201d reiterated his country\u2019s position on the indirect negotiations with the United States and the conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
The chief Iranian negotiator said on Sunday that \u201cour positions are clear, and the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened unless our 7 conditions are met in accordance with the memorandum of understanding\u201d signed last June.<\/p>\n
Ghalibaf pointed out that the United States had presented new proposals to Iran, saying that \u201cthe Americans who say something else in the media recently sent proposals through mediators,\u201d according to Noor News.<\/p>\n
He added that Washington must realize that \u201cthe phase of stalling for time and imposing unilateral demands is over,\u201d in his words.<\/p>\n
Last month, Tehran had put forward a strategy to halt hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, through which around one-fifth of global oil and gas supplies passed before the war.<\/p>\n
The plan, which Iranian Foreign Minister \u201cAbbas Araghchi\u201d discussed through the Qatari mediator with \u201cSteve Witkoff,\u201d U.S. President \u201cDonald Trump\u2019s\u201d envoy, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York, included a 7-day halt to hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon.<\/p>\n
It also included the release of frozen Iranian assets, the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iranian oil, and an end to the U.S. naval blockade of ports, as preconditions for reopening this vital waterway.<\/p>\n
However, U.S. President \u201cDonald Trump\u201d rejected the plan in a post on his \u201cTruth Social\u201d account last week.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, informed sources and officials said that the Trump administration is seeking to pressure the Iranian side to obtain further concessions regarding the nuclear issue.<\/p>\n
