U.S. Homeland Security Secretary \u201cMarkwayne Mullin\u201d downplayed concerns on Sunday over the possibility that broadcasting a video of the execution of \u201cNidal Hasan,\u201d the perpetrator of the Fort Hood attack, could fuel extremism, defending a plan that has drawn objections from other Republican politicians.<\/p>\n
During an interview with CBS, \u201cMullin\u201d responded to a question about whether \u201cHasan\u201d could become a \u201csymbol\u201d inspiring extremists after footage of his execution by firing squad is broadcast, saying: \u201cI don\u2019t see any increased risk whatsoever at this point because of this.\u201d He added: \u201cI think people need to understand that if you attack America, we will come after you, and we will make sure the punishment fits the crime.\u201d<\/p>\n
The U.S. Department of Defense announced on Monday that President \u201cDonald Trump\u201d had approved Defense Secretary \u201cPete Hegseth\u2019s\u201d recommendation to execute \u201cHasan\u201d by firing squad carried out by a U.S. Army team.<\/p>\n
The department\u2019s spokesperson, Sean Parnell, wrote on the social media platform X: \u201cThe day of reckoning has finally arrived for Hasan,\u201d noting that the attack he carried out in 2009 left 13 people dead and 32 others injured.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that \u201cNidal Hasan\u201d carried out an attack at the \u201cFort Hood\u201d military base in the state of Texas in 2009, killing 13 people and injuring 32 others.<\/p>\n
