Flour Festival Regains Its Splendor in the Spanish Town of Ibi<\/p>\n

The annual “Els Enfarinats” festival celebrations covered the Spanish town of Ibi in a layer of flour.<\/p>\n

Each year, participants dress in military-style costumes and stage a mock coup using eggs, flour, and sound bombs.<\/p>\n

The participants involved in the egg-throwing roam the area soliciting “taxes”\u2014which are donations for charity\u2014from local residents; if not paid, you may end up worse off with more flour and eggs thrown at you.<\/p>\n

The festival, held in the province of Alicante, has been celebrated for over 200 years and takes place every December 28th to coincide with the Day of the Holy Innocents\u2014which in Spain represents the same day as April Fools’ Day.<\/p>\n
