Ukraine strikes Russian offshore oil platform in the Caspian Sea for the first time

Ukraine announced on Thursday that its long-range drones targeted a major Russian offshore oil platform in the Caspian Sea this week in a previously undisclosed operation. This marks Ukraine’s first strike on Russia’s oil network in the Caspian, aligning with its escalating campaign to cut Russian energy revenues that fund its war.

A source from the Ukrainian Security Service told CNN: “This is the first Ukrainian strike on Russian oil-production infrastructure in the Caspian,” describing it as “another reminder to Russia that all its war-supporting companies are legitimate targets.”

The operation holds particular significance amid ongoing hostilities, signaling a new expansion of Ukrainian targets aimed at weakening Russia’s economic capabilities.
