The ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip continues for the 63rd consecutive day of the ceasefire, with the situation worsening due to the low-pressure system that has added a difficult dimension to life. Civil Defense sources in Gaza reported the deaths of two citizens due to the collapse of a large wall on displaced people’s tents west of Gaza City this morning.
In a separate incident, a source in the ambulance and emergency services indicated the deaths of five people and injuries to others as a result of the complete collapse of a house in the Bir an-Naaja area of Beit Lahia town north of the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Ministry of Health added that an infant died due to the effects of cold and rain that flooded the displaced people’s tents in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis.
Hamas held Israel fully responsible for the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip and accused it of not adhering to the terms of the war cessation agreement.
On the international front, the US Central Command for the Emergency Agency announced the expansion of its international task force at the special coordination center for Gaza to include representatives from about 60 countries and organizations that partner with the United States.
The “Axios” website indicated that Washington suggested former UN envoy Nickolay Mladenov take responsibility for representing the Peace Council in Gaza, based on information from informed sources.
On the other hand, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said that efforts are still ongoing to recover the body of the last Israeli captive in the Gaza Strip, noting that President Donald Trump’s administration is working intensely behind the scenes to ensure the transition to the second phase of the ceasefire.
In a related development, the “Yedioth Ahronoth” newspaper indicated that Israel is facing increased US pressure to obligate it to bear the costs of removing the massive debris resulting from the war in the Gaza Strip, and that it has initially agreed to this responsibility, estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars, to be allocated to specialized companies.
