Trump: Our Meetings with Netanyahu and Zelenskyy Were Positive and Covered Important Issues
U.S. President Donald Trump said that the meetings he held in Washington with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were positive, noting that both included extensive discussions on several important issues, without revealing the specific topics addressed during the talks.
Trump posted two separate messages on his Truth Social platform. In the first, he described his meeting with Netanyahu as “very good,” saying the discussion covered a number of significant matters. In another post, he stated that his meeting with Zelenskyy also went well, explaining that the two leaders discussed numerous issues during their talks.
Despite his positive remarks, the U.S. president did not provide further details about the subjects discussed, limiting his comments to emphasizing the importance of both meetings.
Trump’s meetings with Netanyahu and Zelenskyy took place on the sidelines of their visit to the U.S. capital to attend the memorial ceremony for Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, where Trump took the opportunity to hold closed-door meetings with both leaders.
Netanyahu Praises the Meeting as Iran Tops the Agenda
Following the meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the talks, describing them as among the best meetings he has had with the U.S. president, emphasizing that they reflected a high level of understanding and coordination.
In a post on his Instagram account, Netanyahu described the meeting as “excellent,” explaining that the assessment reflected the substance of the discussions rather than being merely a diplomatic courtesy. He also noted that several senior officials from the Trump administration participated in the meeting.
He added that the atmosphere reflected a full partnership and mutual support, along with a clear consensus on the shared objective of preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the closed-door meeting lasted approximately an hour and a half and described it as positive and productive.
Agence France-Presse also quoted a source in the Israeli delegation as saying that Trump and Netanyahu reaffirmed during the meeting their commitment to preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, describing the discussions as “very positive.” Only photographs from the meeting were released, with no video footage or additional details made public.
Ukrainian Air Defense and the Diplomatic Track
Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy focused primarily on developments in the war in Ukraine, ways to strengthen Kyiv’s defensive capabilities against Russian attacks, and opportunities to advance diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy said his discussions with Trump included the possibility of granting Ukraine licenses to produce interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense system, in addition to other proposals aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
The Ukrainian president added that the meeting also addressed efforts to revive the diplomatic process as one of the possible paths toward ending the war, noting that the discussion included several proposals concerning the next phase.
According to U.S. media reports, the closed-door talks between Trump and Zelenskyy lasted more than an hour and were part of a series of meetings the two sides have held in recent weeks, including on the sidelines of NATO summits and G7 meetings.
These meetings come amid continued coordination between Washington and Kyiv regarding the war in Ukraine, alongside ongoing U.S. consultations with Israel on regional and security issues, particularly the Iranian file, reflecting the U.S. administration’s commitment to maintaining open channels of communication with its allies on key foreign policy and security challenges.
