Warnings against an Israeli security project to militarize Jerusalem and erase its Palestinian identity.

2 Min Read

The Jerusalem Governorate warned today of a proposed cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Security and the occupation municipality to develop security and military infrastructure in occupied Jerusalem, aimed at intensifying Israeli military and institutional presence in the city.

In a statement, the Governorate explained that the project will increase restrictions on Jerusalemite citizens and threaten the social fabric and the Arab, Islamic, and Christian identity of the city, calling on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to take action to stop the project and hold the occupation accountable for its violations.

It emphasized that signing the cooperation agreement represents an escalatory step considered the most extensive Israeli military repositioning within Jerusalem in decades. The project includes establishing a branch for the Israeli security system at the city entrance, featuring a complex for the military research and development administration responsible for developing combat means and technological infrastructure.

The project also includes building housing projects for Israeli soldiers in permanent service, establishing an occupation army museum, updating the recruitment office in Jerusalem, and transferring military colleges to the occupied city, where hundreds of officers and high-ranking military officials study.
