Washington – United News Network: The United States is preparing a new sanctions package targeting the Russian energy sector to tighten pressure on Russia, with these new measures expected to be revealed in the coming days, according to Bloomberg.
The anticipated U.S. sanctions include oil tankers suspected of being linked to the transport of Russian oil, as well as trading companies that facilitate its sale, according to reliable sources.
Informed sources told Bloomberg that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent discussed plans to impose new sanctions on Russia during a meeting held with a group of European ambassadors earlier this week. The sources emphasized that the final decision on this matter rests with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The discussion of these punitive measures coincides with ongoing negotiations between representatives of the United States, Ukraine, and Russia in an attempt to settle the conflict.
The German capital, Berlin, hosted a dialogue session between Washington and Kyiv on December 14 and 15, with the participation of representatives from Europe and NATO.
This was preceded by a visit to Moscow by American researchers Jared Kushner and the U.S. President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
The German newspaper “Bild” and the American website “Axios” reported that the Trump administration is pressuring Volodymyr Zelenskyy to accept the proposed American peace deal.
The U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, explained that Trump is seeking ways to pressure both Ukraine and Russia to end the conflict.
Moscow continues to reject Western sanctions, considering them illegal.
